More than 600 entries were received for the first ever Redwings Show Online!
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, we were sadly forced to cancel our annual horse show, which had been scheduled to take place at Trinity Park, near Ipswich, in July.
In its place, we decided to move the show online and open it to entries not just from horses, but all animals!
Over two weeks, we accepted photo and video entries in a vast array of categories, from Prettiest Mare to Most Dashing Dog, from Best Working From Home Buddy to the Pet Who Looks Most Like Their Owner.
There were also special Gymkhana In Your Garden classes which could be entered even if you didn’t have a pet!
Donations made to enter the online show raised more than £2,200, which will now go towards our coronavirus appeal to help us continue to care for the 1,500 rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and mules living at the Sanctuary at this challenging time.
Jude Palmer, organiser of the Redwings Show Online, said: “Thank you to everyone who took part - we were blown away by everyone’s support of the Show! It was particularly lovely to see entries from across the country (even one from Australia!), often from families who rarely have a chance to take part in our usual horse show because they live too far away.
“It was also lovely to see the variety of animals, we had dogs, cats and horses of course but also guinea pigs, a sheep, several rabbits and even a bearded dragon! We loved seeing all the photos and videos, and our judges had a really tough time picking their favourites. As well as helping to raise vital funds towards the care of our horses, we hope the online show also helped to raise a smile or two during the lockdown.”
