Unfortunately the November lockdown means we have no choice but to close our visitor centres for the time being.
However, there are still plenty of ways you can enjoy your fix of all things Redwings!
Whether it’s spending some virtual time with our rescued horses and donkeys, enjoying our educational family activities, or if you simply want to find out how our teams are coping during the coronavirus outbreak, we’re working hard to bring you plenty of fun content that will make you feel like you’re here yourself!
Here’s how you can enjoy Redwings from your living room:
Meet our residents!
Our equine carers know you must be missing the chance to give our rescued residents plenty of cuddles, so we’ve brought them to you. Keep an eye on our YouTube channel for videos of our herds from across the Sanctuary, such as the Shetland ponies from Redwings Ada Cole. How many can you recognise?
Join in a talk
We love to talk about our four-legged friends, especially during the school holidays when we host lots of free fascinating tours and talks. We’ve decided, that even though you’re at home, there’s no reason to miss out! Here our Redwings Mountains team introduces us to their herd of donkeys and explains the specialist care that goes into these lovable creatures. Look out for more videos like this soon!
Adopt a rescued horse!
Did you know that when you sponsor a Redwings Adoption Star horse or donkey, you receive a year’s access to their online diary? So even if you can’t meet them in person, you’ll still be able to keep in touch with all their antics at the Sanctuary, with lots of extra photos and stories exclusively for you.
A year’s adoption costs as little as £15 and makes an ideal gift for a friend or loved one, especially as it’s difficult to get the shops right now. Every adopter receives a beautiful pack with your new friend’s story and photograph, plus a certificate and friendship card to treasure. And every penny of your sponsorship will go towards the care of your Adoption Star and their friends at the Sanctuary.
Click here to find out more about our Adoption Stars, just like Shire horse Lady below, and to adopt today!
Learn something new
We’ve recently launched the Young Reds At Home Academy for anyone staying at home with children or grandchildren and are looking for ways of keeping them entertained.
As well as boredom-busters, we hope they provide some comfort during this uncertain time – and everyone can pick up some essential Redwings and horse care knowledge at the same time! There’s also certificates to download when every challenge is completed, so get stuck in!
Check out our social media
Throughout the coronavirus outbreak, we’re making sure we fill our social media channels every day with plenty of adorable photos of our rescued horses and donkeys to help put a smile on your face, just like Benny from Redwings Caldecott below. You can find us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. We’d love for you to share our images and videos to help spread the word about Redwings!
Show love to our teams
While making sure we all still have the chance to catch-up with our favourite residents, our teams are working really hard to ensure all of our rescued residents receive the care they need at this challenging time.
Please keep an eye out for our regular statements and #CoronaChronicles blog which provide updates on how our own amazing frontline workers are coping. Why not leave them a message of support on social media or donate to our coronavirus appeal to show how much we’re all behind them?!
We can’t wait to welcome you back in person soon, till then, stay safe everyone!
