Loneliness Awareness Week runs from 15th – 21st June and this year we have partnered up with Better Together Norfolk to help combat loneliness during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Horses are herd animals and one of their basic needs is friendship, just like it is for humans, so throughout the week we've been sharing short films of our Redwings Mountains team and their favourite four-legged residents, just like Elle and Nico above, highlighting the importance of friendship for both humans and horses.
It's proved to be a wonderful way for people to feel a little closer to us, espeically while our visitor centres remain closed.
If you missed them, you can find all the films on our YouTube channel by clicking here.
No one, human or horse, should feel alone and there are lots of ways that you can become a part of our Redwings community during this difficult time. #JoinTheHerd
Here are a few ideas:
Adopt a horse or donkey
The gift of friendship is a wonderful way to help combat loneliness. Sponsoring a Redwings Adoption Star horse or donkey gives you access to their online blog, full of stories and photos from their lives at the Sanctuary - making it a wonderful gift for yourself or a loved one to enjoy from home.
Young Reds At Home Academy
Our Young Reds At Home Academy provides plenty of activities for young people to enjoy at home. If your children or grandchildren are missing their friends, why not see if they can team up with their pals online and test their horsey knowledge out with one of our fun quizzes?!
Take part in The Mane Event
This is a fun online fundraiser to get involved in if you're suffering with your lockdown hair! Simply make a donation, send in a photo of your lockdown hairstyle and we will match you up with a similarly styled Redwings resident!
Do some fundraising
One great way to help support us and become part of our #RedwingsAngels community at the same time is to do some fundraising. From bake sales to donating arts and crafts, to taking on a sponsored walk/run or collecting used stamps, there are plenty of ways to get involved! Click here for further inspiration!
Get in touch
We love to hear from you all so please keep in touch by commenting on our social media posts and keeping an eye on this website page, including our weekly #CoronaChronicles blog, to discover the latest updates from the Sanctuary.
