Members of the Equestrian Club at St John’s Priory School in Banbury recently paid a visit to Redwings Oxhill in Warwickshire.
The children were given a guided tour of the centre and learnt how we care for our rescued horses and donkeys, in particular they discovered how we encourage horses onto our weighbridge and what we do if a horse is too nervous to step on it.
They all had such a wonderful time that they decided to sponsor Adoption Star Rumpel too!
One of the students, Harry, said: “I learnt how you weigh a horse by putting it on the big scales and if they are nervous you can get the big horse measuring tape and put it around their belly. I liked meeting the horses especially Rumpel.”
Another of the students, Klara, commented: “I enjoyed the visit to Redwings because the horses came up to us and were very, very friendly. I liked when we got to weigh the horses because I now know more about horses and I was learning.”
Sarah Harrison, a teacher at St John’s Priory School who takes the children to Equestrian Club, said: “The children had a fabulous (albeit a rather chilly) visit to Redwings Horse Sanctuary. Wendy (Redwings Oxhill team member) was very knowledgeable about the horses and shared their stories with enthusiasm and compassion with the children.
“We enjoyed learning how to weigh a horse and the children were involved with recording the important information. The Equestrian Club all contributed to adopting one of the residents, Rumpel!”
Thank you so much to the Equestrian Club for visiting us! We hope to welcome them back soon, and if you're interested in your school or club visiting one of our centres, just click here to find out more.
