We’re wishing a happy retirement to one of our much loved residents – wheeling and dealing donkey Del Boy – who is stepping down from the Redwings Adoption Scheme.
Retirement simply means Del Boy will no longer be available for new adopters, but he will keep in touch with his existing sponsors and his fans can still visit him for free at his home at Redwings Ada Cole, in Essex.
Del Boy arrived at the Sanctuary in 2010 with his best friend Rodney (pictured below) and four other companions after a request was made from a small animal education centre that was sadly being forced to close due to the recession. It didn’t take long for Del Boy’s charismatic personality to shine through and shortly after their arrival he joined the Adoption Scheme.
Sadly over the last year, Del Boy has been suffering with recurrent lameness issues. He suffers from osteoarthritis and poor hoof quality, which require regular specialist attention and radiographs from our skilled farriers.
While he is currently doing well, we’ve decided that it’s best he enjoys a slower pace of life by stepping down from some of his Adoption Star duties.
Redwings Ada Cole, which is free to enter, will be hosting a series of summer holiday activities, from Friday 19th July, celebrating all the wonderful things about donkeys and it’s hoped as many people as possible will drop by to wish Del Boy a happy retirement!
Sponsoring a Redwings Adoption Star costs just £15 per year. Adopters receive photographs and updates from their Adoption Star about their latest adventures and antics, as well as access to their online multi-media diary and an invitation to their birthday party!
