Dawn Trayhorn

Veterinary Surgeon

I am one of the veterinary surgeons at Redwings and have been here since 2004. Before working at the Sanctuary, I worked in a general veterinary practice for two years.

I am primarily based at the Horse Hospital at Redwings’ headquarters and am part of the team that provides emergency, routine and preventative care for the equine residents within the Sanctuary. I am also part of the on-call rota, being available for our residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

I am primarily a General Practitioner, however my main interests are Internal Medicine and Ophthalmology and since being at Redwings I have studied for and gained my CertAVP (Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice).

The job is really varied, I love working within a close-knit team, and I really enjoy working outdoors.

I would say I have had several memorable moments over the years and it’s always rewarding when you know you have saved a life and see a seriously ill resident recover enough that they can return to their field or go out to a loving Guardian home. I am very proud of the quality and degree of veterinary care that we at Redwings provide for all our residents.

Redwings resident soft spot: I’ve had several favourite residents over the years, some of whom are now in Guardian homes! I am particularly fond of Snow White from the Amersham rescue as we spent a lot of time together whilst she required intensive treatment for a severe eye injury.
