We wanted to say a special thank to you Poppy and Millie, aged eight, who are the Guardians of Redwings Strawberry Shortcake, who was rehomed in October last year.
Together with their friends Claudia and Sophie, the girls wanted to raise some money to support charities during the coronavirus outbreak.
Before their school closed as part of the lockdown measures, they gave a speech in assembly to explain that they wanted to raise money for those who might be struggling due to Covid-19, including Redwings to help us continue to care for our rescued horses, ponies and donkeys.
They then collected donations from fellow pupils and their families and raised an amazing £100! The donations will be split, with £50 going to their local foodbank charity, and £50 donated to Redwings.
We are so grateful for the girls’ thoughtful gesture. Their £50 donation could pay for a health check for a new arrival, helping a neglected horse or donkey on their first step to recovery.
Poppy and Millie’s mum Kim also let us know that Strawberry Shortcake has continued to settle well within her new family and is much loved by Poppy, Mille and their little sister Ruby! It was just four years ago that Strawberry Shortcake was found alone, severely underweight and suffering from diarrhoea at a horse fair, so we are delighted to see her so happy and loved in her new home.
