Quincy arrived at Redwings in 2012 following a large scale rescue operation in South Wales.
Sixty horses found fly-grazing on Cardiff airport were rounded-up, many of whom were in a poor condition and needing veterinary attention.
Twenty-three of those rescued came into Redwings’ care and were named after 80s music stars – and little nine-month-old Quincy was named after famous producer Quincy Jones!
Five years on and Quincy has grown in to a laid back, friendly pony – making him a perfect candidate for our rehoming scheme! In fact, Quincy is the first of our 80s group to be rehomed and this September, he joined his new Guardian family with Hayley King and her seven-year-old daughter, Mary.
When asked about why she chose to rehome from Redwings, Hayley said: “We felt very confident in the work that Redwings do and are proud that we can help by giving a pony a loving home”. Mary has been riding from a young age and was looking for a pony to love and care for, and who she continue to grow in confidence in her riding with.
Quincy is settling in really well, as Hayley explains: “Quincy has a fabulous personality, he is friendly, kind and tries so hard to please. He is a real pleasure to have the opportunity to look after”.
With his sociable nature, Quincy is also making friends with Hayley’s three other horses and is enjoying their company.
Mary is planning to spend the winter getting to know Quincy and continuing his schooling ready for next year when she is hoping to join a local riding club and enter Quincy in to some jumping classes at local shows.
It’s lovely to see Quincy come so far, from the poorly foal we rescued in Cardiff to his new Guardian home where Hayley and Mary “adore him and are looking forward to a future with him.”
Rehoming a Redwings rescue horse is hugely rewarding – and who knows where your journey will take you! Check out our rehoming pages if you’d like to give a rescue pony a second chance.
