We pay tribute to Phoenix

In the weeks that we cared for Phoenix, one of our favourite things to do was to share the images his care team took of him while he received treatment at our Horse Hospital.

For much of his stay, contact with Phoenix was kept to a minimum to protect him from infection but our vets and nurses made sure we were all kept up-to-date with his care - and antics! - with regular photos and video clips which we posted on our social media pages.

You especially loved to see his colourful vet wrap designs, which helped to put a smile on all our faces as our teams worked around the clock to soothe his injuries which lay underneath.

His carers captured so many wonderful moments with him that we sadly never had a chance to share all of them with you. So, we’ve collated some of our favourite images and clips from his time at the Sanctuary in this short video which we hope will serve as a fitting tribute to our special boy.

We always knew Phoenix had many fans across the world, but it wasn’t until his passing last week that we truly realised just how far his story had spread and how much this adorable little pony had touched the hearts of our supporters.

Thank you once again to everyone who has sent in messages of support and condolence. We’ve been unable to respond to all of them but be assured that each one had been read and greatly appreciated.

As we currently consider a future memorial for Phoenix, there is another way that you can help treasure his memory now.

You may have seen that Phoenix has been announced as a nominee for Horse & Hound’s Pony of the Year Award in honour of the way he inspired us all with his bravery and as a symbol of the incredibly hard work our carers put into helping horses in need every day.
