The occupants of a holiday let next door to Claire’s horses had a large firework display on New Year’s Eve. Claire’s turned-out horses were galloping in panic, but 21 year-old Tango was stabled and unable to run, instead spinning, rearing and kicking out. Shortly afterwards he showed clear signs of colic and the vet was called. Despite everyone’s best efforts, Tango’s condition was so severe that nothing could be done to save him and he was put to sleep.
The vet diagnosed stress-induced colic and Claire is in no doubt that the fireworks were directly responsible for her pony’s death.
“Fireworks killed my wonderful pony, it’s a simple as that. Tango died in agony and terror, and for what? I contacted the police and the SSPCA but was told that nothing could be done. It beggars belief.”
