"We couldn't do it without them!"

At Redwings we are responsible for over 2,000 rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and mules – that’s a lot of mouths to fill and hooves to care for!

We need a large team of highly-skilled and experienced people to provide our residents with the specialist care and love they need.

To mark Employee Appreciation Day, we sat down with Lynn Cutress, our CEO, to celebrate the hard-working humans that improve the welfare of horses and donkeys, both inside and out of our paddock fences, every day.

A 24/7 operation

 

Looking after our rescued residents is a 24/7 task.

Lynn said: “The work that a lot of our teams do is not your typical 9-5. The hard-working staff at our farms and visitor centres work tirelessly in all weathers in ensure our residents are receiving the care they need. 

“We have teams working around the clock to feed, check and provide veterinary treatment for our horses; they go above and beyond to ensure our high standards of welfare are maintained. We truly couldn’t do what we do without the incredible work of our paid horse care and veterinary staff.”

As you may have seen during National Apprenticeship Week, many of our staff are developing their professional and personal skills at Redwings.

On this, Lynn added: “One of the many benefits of working for us is our dedication to investing in our staff. I’m delighted that we have some staff who began with us as apprentices and are still with us today over 10 years later! 

“As part of this dedication we also strive to promote existing staff into more senior roles, or other roles within the charity, to continue to grow their skills and to benefit our work. Many of the roles you might see us advertising are available because we have internally promoted the person who previously held that role.”

Valuing our supporters

 

Alongside our teams working on our farms, we also have our office and visitor centre staff who work with the public. 

Lynn said: “As a charity, we rely on our amazing supporters to fund our work. We want to engage with you all as much as we can and get to know the people who help us continue to improve horses’ lives. 

"From answering your calls, emails and social media comments, processing your donations, and speaking with you at our visitor centres and events, our staff work hard to ensure our supporters know how much we value them. 

“I’m so grateful for events such as the Thank-a-thon where staff from every area of our work come together to write cards and make phone calls to supporters to personally thank them for funding Redwings. I’m so proud of the number of staff who are willing to take time out of their busy days to get involved in those events.”

Thank you so much to every member of staff here at the Sanctuary. Your hard work and dedication is appreciated every day of the year but it’s wonderful to have a special day where we can celebrate how truly amazing you all are!
