We always love to hear your fundraising stories so when Lisa Manning got in touch recently to tell us about her wonderful walks throughout February, we were excited to share her story with you all!
Lisa, who has cystic fibrosis, had been shielding since March 2020, but when she was put on a breakthrough treatment in October, she decided she wanted to challenge herself to be able to walk 100 miles throughout February with her husband, Lee.
Lisa says: “We decided to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Redwings and Saving Balkan Boxer Dogs because they have been three things that have helped me through this last year. The work of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, providing ground breaking research and treatment, my boxer dog, Maggie, who is there for me through good and bad, and the two horses I’ve been riding for the last five years, Dougal and Archie.
I started riding when I was two, as it was deemed good physio for my Cystic Fibrosis, and I fell in love and have been in love with horses ever since (I’m now 36). Horses are my happy place, where my anxieties melt away. So I decided to include a horse rescue in our challenge.”
With an initial target of raising £100 for each charity Lisa and Lee walked no matter what the weather – rain, wind, hail and even some snow - and thanks to their amazing efforts they ended up raising £200 per charity and walked a total of 120 miles!
Lisa added: “It was actually a really amazing thing for me because the walks did absolute wonders for my mental health. Knowing we were doing something for a good cause made it even better!”
Thank you so much Lisa and Lee!
