It's Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month!

At Redwings we are fortunate enough to have a dedicated nursing team who work tirelessly alongside our vets to ensure our rescued residents receive the best possible medical care when they need it most.

The title ‘veterinary nurse’ was first used in 1984, which coincidentally, is the same year that Redwings was founded! However, it wasn’t until the year 2000 that the first Equine Veterinary Nurse qualification (EVN) was awarded.

Training to become a qualified veterinary nurse takes two to three years either via a diploma or a degree route under the governing body RCVS. Veterinary nurses must then ensure they complete 15 hours a year CPD to maintain their RVN/EVN status.

The veterinary nursing role is vitally important in the everyday working of an Equine Veterinary Hospital to ensure patients receive the best possible care. Veterinary nurses perform a huge variety of roles covering everything from managing admissions and microchipping through to theatre prep and nursing, plus pre and post-operative care.

We think our vet nurses are absolutely amazing and although May is the month to raise awareness of their vital role, we truly appreciate their passion and dedication all year round! Thank you #HorseHeroes
