Redwings stands with Ukraine.
We are distressed to see the reports coming out of Ukraine including tragic stories now emerging of horses being let go by their devastated owners in the hope they might survive the conflict.
As a team of horse lovers, Redwings’ staff wanted to do something practical to help.
Last week our vet team organised a bake sale which raised £441.00. This has been donated to the British Equestrians for UK Fund.
Leigh Wilson, who is a Student Veterinary Nurse (SVN) at Redwings and came up with the idea along with colleague Lizzy King. Leigh said: “We’re obviously all watching the news, hearing the stories, and like everyone else are horrified by what’s going on in Ukraine.
“We really wanted to do something to raise some funds.
“The event came together in a couple of days - it was a real team effort with the involvement of the whole vet unit - and we had huge support from other staff at Redwings Headquarters in Hapton and at our other sites who sent donations.
“This has now been donated to British Equestrians for Ukraine Fund.”
Redwings does not operate overseas but the charity fully supports our colleagues at other equine organisations who have an international remit, and are therefore best placed to help, and the work they are doing in Ukraine and the surrounding area. At the same time, we will continue to be here to care for horses in need of rescue and sanctuary in the UK.
