Redwings was delighted to once again support this year’s Stars of Norfolk and Waveney Awards!
For the second year, we have sponsored the Animal Hero of the Year Award, honouring amazing animals who have shown exceptional bravery or support for their owners and community.
The category was originally inspired by our own beloved Phoenix the foal who sadly passed away in 2021 having suffered horrific burns in a suspected arson attack.
This year’s awards, which are organised by the newspaper, the Eastern Daily Press, were held in Norwich on 30th November.
Lynn Cutress, Redwings Chief Executive, presented the Animal Hero of the Year Award to Alfie (pictured above).
Alfie is a young rescued dog who has worked with his owner to overcome some of his nerves to make a phenomenal difference via the national OK9 programme. The scheme, run by Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, provides an opportunity for fire fighters and fire staff to informally talk through specific incidents which have affected them. Cuddling a dog while talking about difficult issues helps them to relax and helps to open up conversations to support wellbeing.
Also honoured at the event was Theo Yeldham who was presented with the Young Person of the Year Award. Theo is the son of Hannah who is a member of our Aylsham Visitor Centre team.
Theo collects litter off local beaches to protect the seals who come to Norfolk to have their pups during the winter. He also offers his support to the Friends of Horsey Seals.
Congratulations to Alfie and Theo!
