We knew, when Phoenix’s story hit the headlines across the world and started to be shared widely on social media, that people had taken his plight to their hearts.
This week we’ve continued to feel that incredible support thanks to the many kind offers of help, donations and well wishes that keep arriving every day.
It’s certainly given our vet team a lift as they continue to provide Phoenix with the 24-hour care he needs, including bandage changes every two days and milk feeds every four hours!
Phoenix remains in a stable but critical condition, and it’s likely he will require this intensive level of care for a long time to come.
So we’d like to take this opportunity to say a renewed thank you to our vets and nurses who are pulling out all the stops to ensure this little foal has the best chance of recovery, while continuing to look after the dozens of horses and donkeys who also need extra TLC at the Horse Hospital.
Here’s a rundown of just some of the amazing examples of support we’ve received this week:
First off, another Amazon Wishlist sold out in minutes! Thank you once again to everyone who has purchased a gift. Phoenix’s list is currently being updated weekly with the veterinary equipment and supplies he needs as he progresses with his recovery.
If you missed out on this week’s Wishlist, you can still provide vital support to the Horse Hospital and Phoenix’s care through making a donation. Simply call 01508 481000 or click here to give online.
To show his gratitude, Phoenix and his foster mum Mildred posed with some of his recently arrived gifts, as well as a handful of the many, many get well cards he is being sent. They are all being sent to the Horse Hospital where the vet team loves to read your comments.
Talking of post, here’s the lovely Glenn from UPS who delivered a box of wound dressings from specialist suppliers Advancis – and professed himself to be a Phoenix fan!
The delivery was made to Georgie Hollis, of the Vet Wound Library, who has been visiting Phoenix since his arrival at Redwings to provide our vets with expert advice on how best to heal his extensive burns.
Our vets have decades’ worth of experience of caring for horses, but Phoenix’s case is really unprecedented and we are grateful to be receiving expert help from top specialists to make sure we leave no stone unturned in our fight to save this special boy.
Veterinary suppliers Millpledge have also kindly donated some very colourful vet wrap that Phoenix was happy to model this week. The wrap helps to keep his bandages in place and ease the persistent itch he feels as his burns start to heal.
We’re wondering if by the colours they sent they are hinting that Phoenix may be a young Norwich City fan in the making?!
Away from the veterinary world, you continue to blow us away with your own fundraising efforts! This week a kind-hearted supporter hosted an afternoon tea for residents of her local village and raised a fantastic £800!
That wonderful amount could fund Phoenix’s daily bandage changes for almost a month!
We look forward to updating you on Phoenix’s progress next week. Thank you #RedwingsAngels
