Petplan grants £8,000 towards stable project

Petplan Charitable Trust has kindly granted Redwings £8,000 towards the replacement of a dilapidated stable block at Redwings Ada Cole.

After constant use for 50 years, and despite numerous repairs, the current stable block at our Essex visitor centre has become unfit for purpose.

The walls of the stables have become severely rotten and storms last year caused a large rip to the roof.

Redwings Ada Cole is home to a number of horses who have special care needs. Some of the older horses struggle with the colder months and need to come into the stables overnight for shelter.

During the day, the stables become a home to horses with health conditions who may need to rest or have specific dietary requirements. The stables give them a break from the grass and allows their carers to monitor their forage intake.

The stables also help prepare horses for rehoming by acclimatising them to a stable environment.

Replacing the block will therefore make a crucial and long-lasting difference to the lives of rescued horses in our care, now and for many years to come.

Thanks to Petplan Charitable Trust’s kindness, construction work is due to start this spring. We look forward to showing visitors our new stables later in the year.
