We know that caring for a horse is a commitment!
That’s why last year we launched our Stamp Out Strangles Pledge and online Hub to help equip horse owners and yard managers with easily accessible information and the advice they need to significantly reduce the risk of their horses being affected by infectious disease.
Now, to mark the one year anniversary of our Pledge initiative, Yard Pledger and Campaign Champion Hartpury University and Hartpury College has featured in our latest video explaining the importance of good biosecurity practices.
Hartpury took the Stamp Out Strangles Pledge in November 2018 and then supported our Speak Out On Strangles Day in July 2019.
Andie Vilela, Campaigns Manager, said: “Hartpury demonstrates that biosecurity is feasible on the busiest of yards and event venues. The standards they set show that it is possible to reduce the risk of strangles by enforcing some simple but consistent steps.
“As well as having identified sick horses in the past two years, students have become ambassadors for horse health and yard hygiene. We’d like to thank Emelye and everyone involved in making this film, and hope it helps them explain the importance to prospective students and inspires other yards to review their own livery yard agreements.”
If you have been inspired by Hartpury, you can find tools to help review or develop your own yard agreement by clicking here.
If you want to share your strangles story and read about others who have successfully managed an outbreak, including Redwings and Hartpury, click here.
The Pledge urges horse owners and yard managers to make a voluntary commitment to champion biosecurity practices. To date, over 1,000 people have joined the campaign across the country by making their Pledge to Stamp Out Strangles!
