We say goodbye to much-loved resident Nesbitt

This week we said a sad goodbye to the much-adored Nesbitt, a stunning former police horse who was a favourite among visitors at Redwings Oxhill in Warwickshire.

Nesbitt, an Irish Sport horse, arrived at Redwings in 2013 from the South Wales Mounted Police, and lived with fellow police horse Sully and friend Jay.

During his time in the police, Nesbitt attended many high profile events, including playing a role in crowd management at the London 2012 Olympics (pictured above right).

Towards the end of his career, he was diagnosed with degenerative joint disease and it was decided that he need to be retired. Redwings had previously worked closely with South Wales Police on a number of equine welfare cases, and with Nesbitt now requiring ongoing special care, they reached out to us for help. We, of course, could not resist giving this special boy a well-deserved new home!

Nesbitt soon settled into life at Redwings Oxhill and loved greeting visitors during the six years he lived at the centre.

Very sadly, he had recently been suffering with severe lameness, and with our vets unfortunately no longer able to keep him comfortable, the heart-breaking decision was made to put him to sleep.

Nesbitt was loved by his carers and visitors alike, and we know his loss will be felt by all at Redwings and his many fans. We’re sure you’ll join us in remembering this very special horse, RIP Nesbitt.
