Stunning Fjord pony Ellie has been living with Hannah for six years and Shetland Little’Un joined the family nearly two years ago.
Hannah said she wanted to rehome from Redwings so she could “give a pony another chance” and explained that when meeting Ellie she “knew she was the one.” Ellie certainly deserved a second chance having been rescued from the horrors of Spindle Farm in Amersham.
Little’Un arrived at Redwings in exceptional circumstances when his owner became terminally ill. He joined the family as a companion pony and has settled in really well, making friends with all the other ponies on the yard. “He’s very cheeky,” said Hannah. “He struts across the yard like he’s a 17hh stallion!”
Hannah has been riding since she was six-years-old and has enjoyed taking part in lots of events with Ellie. Hannah said: “Ellie is the best pony ever, she tries her hardest in all aspects of ridden work and she does everything asked of her to the best of her ability”.
This year Hannah and Ellie have competed at gymkhana, jumping and dressage. After putting in lots of work the pair won the overall trophy for the season in the Willow Tree Farming Summer Dressage League. Hannah also took Ellie on a weekend holiday with the local riding club and they had great fun riding on the beach!
Hannah, who is currently studying for a degree in Equine Science and Rehabilitation, has also done some work experience at our rehoming centre. Talking about her time at Redwings Hannah said: “I wanted to see the process of rehoming from training through to finding a pony a new home. I really enjoyed my work experience, it confirmed to me that I want to work with horses when I’ve finished my degree.”
It’s lovely to see such a great partnership and dedicated Guardian. When asked about the pair Hannah said: “I am lucky to be chosen as their Guardian, no matter how bad my day is going they always brighten it up, they are my life”.
Rehoming a Redwings rescue horse is hugely rewarding – and who knows where your journey will take you?! Check out our rehoming pages if you’d like to give a rescue pony a second chance.
